Wine good enough for the Pope

img_1290This is just a quick heads up in case you are a fan of a good Châteauneuf-du-Pape red. Sainsbury’s are running a price promotion on the Clos de l’Oratoire 2014, with a bottle going for £21 instead of the usual £24-27. Spicy, medium-bodied with a lovely hit of red fruit, this wine is worth the extra money. (So’s we’re clear, I’m a £7 bottle kind of girl so it would normally be a dinner party wine for me.)

The picture of the Pope on the front, indicating its origin in the ruined 14th century commune built for Pope John XXII, reminded me of that excellent episode of Black Books in which Manny and Bernard accidentally drink a £7000 bottle of wine intended for the Pontiff. Man, I love that sitcom so much. I watch all three seasons at least once a year.

Sainsbury’s want me to let you know that all price promotions are subject to change and availability. Basically get ’em while they’re there. The promotion ends on the 22nd of November 2016.
